In a figure drawing class or session, the artist is assigned a time limit to capture the pose that they see before them. The time limit ranges from ten seconds to a full hour or more, but generally speaking, a session will open with quick gestural drawings with poses lasting less than a minute. You have to take in and try to interpret what you see very quickly (this is the forebear of ‘speed painting’, and it goes back centuries). This is a thirty second drawing of mine.
